When searching for adjectives
to describe Beverly Garland, 'spirited' is among the
first that comes to mind -- as is 'candid.' The two
qualities in tandem make her a film historian's dream
come true.
B MONSTER: Honestly,
don't you ever get sick of the fans and their questions?
BEVERLY GARLAND: You know I really don't because
what's happened is -- you know we did these movies for
$500 -- whatever the hell we did them for -- certainly
not a lot of money. We never really thought they'd amount
to anything. You know, you came home and you thought
'well, that's the end of that.' I got my money and I
can pay my rent never dreaming in a million years that
25 years -- 30 years -- however many years later that
anybody would call you and ask about them. Half the
time you did them and absolutely forgot about them.
And people ask me questions about some of this stuff
and I really -- half the time -- can't remember because
I didn't pay any attention. I did the gig and I went
home and that was that. Goodbye. And now people go ask
me about this, 'When was it?' and I go, 'Gee I don't
know. Let's see if I can remember anything.'
