Actor Robert Clarke is inexorably identified with the
sci fi genre, his proclivity for roles of that nature
rivaled only by John Agar. Films like The Man From
Planet X and Beyond the Time Barrier assured
his standing in the fantasy pantheon, and Clarke's appearance
in director Ronnie Ashcroft's Astounding She Monster
inspired him to produce the film for which he is best
known, The Hideous Sun Demon.
"Because Astounding She Monster was so
bad, I said 'God! I can make a better film than that.'
It inspired me to do the Sun Demon." As
near as Clarke can recall, it was She Monster
director Ashcroft that introduced him to no-budget schlock-filmer
Jerry Warren. "I forget which one recommended me
to the other. But I considered it not so much of a favor."
